A widened alar and bulbous tip can create a dull visage

The alars refer to the flesh around the sides of the nostrils. A wide alar base, along with a bulbous tip can create a large nose which is often flat and without structure, giving a dull impression. Wedge incision to narrow the alar base by 2-4 mm is performed with the incision hidden along the natural alar groove so that that scars are not visible.

In the process the alar base is narrowed , the nostril size is made smaller and the tip of the nose is elevated and projected

Incision method is not indicated in patients with narrow nostrils as breathing may be made more difficult.

Alar sutures can be placed to pull the edges of the nose together and also to narrow the columella. No skin is removed in this technique.

This is ideal for patients with a wide columella and normal size nostrils.

Scar Control

If the scars are not planned properly or suturing is not done precisely, the chance of scarring is high after an alar-plasty. We perform delicate suture to minimise scarring as much as possible. A scar protocol after surgery is also necessary to prevent scarring.
