Alar-Plasty |
Nostril-Plasty

giving proportion and creating harmony

A widened alar and bulbous tip can create a dull visage

The alars refer to the flesh around the sides of the nostrils. A wide alar base, along with a bulbous tip can create a large nose which is often flat and without structure, giving a dull impression. Narrowing of the alar alone can reduce the width of the nose, restoring the proportion of the facial fifths. The nostrils can also be reduced and reshaped with this simple but elegant procedure.

Alar-plasty can be a simple procedure but it can create a profound change in your appearance

Candidates for Alar-plasty are patients:
  • Who have a thick skin and fat around the alar
  • With a widened nose
  • With a bulbous nose
  • With large nostrils
  • Who desire an increase in tip projection

We Consider The Face From Different Angles

Nose Surgery is Precise. Maintain a harmonious relation with the face.
The nose is the central component in facial aesthetics. Maintaining harmony with the rest of the facial features is key for successful rhinoplasty. Detailed planning using 3D-Imaging is performed to calculate precise measurements.

The ideal width of the nose should be approximately the width of the eye. Excessive nostril flare can create a flat appearance of the nose.

What is Alar-Plasty?

What is Alar-Plasty?

Alar-Plasty for correction of wide alar base + nostril size
Simplified steps to explain the science behind the art of Plastic Surgery to create a narrower + harmonious nasal base.
Open Incision Technique
Wedge incision to narrow the alar base by 2-4 mm is performed with the incision hidden along the natural alar groove so that that scars are not visible.

In the process the alar base is narrowed , the nostril size is made smaller and the tip of the nose is elevated and projected

Incision method is not indicated in patients with narrow nostrils as breathing may be made more difficult.
  • Effective for patients with big nostrils
  • Size of nostrils can be controlled
Non-incision Technique
Alar sutures can be placed to pull the edges of the nose together and also to narrow the columella. No skin is removed in this technique.

This is ideal for patients with a wide columella and normal size nostrils.

Non-incision method is not indicated if there is a need to reduce the nostril size as there's a high chance of recurrence
  • Width of alar and columella can be changed
  • Fast recovery
  • No scars
  • No risk of nasal congestion

Getting Alar-Plasty Done Right

01

Scar Control

If the scars are not planned properly or suturing is not done precisely, the chance of scarring is high after an alar-plasty. We perform delicate suture to minimise scarring as much as possible. A scar protocol after surgery is also necessary to prevent scarring.

02

Facial Harmony

Considering your facial proportions is important to ensure that the alar and nostril fit with your aesthetic goals. To obtain the ideal nose line, other surgeries such as dorsal augmentation or tip-plasty may be necessary.
