Male Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty for men focuses on refining nasal structure while preserving a strong, balanced appearance. Male rhinoplasty emphasises straight lines, defined contours, and proportionate width to maintain a masculine profile. Whether addressing a low bridge, a nasal hump, or a drooping tip, the procedure is tailored to harmonise with facial features while ensuring natural-looking results.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedures requested by males

Candidates for male rhinoplasty typically include individuals with:

  • Thick skin and fat around the alar region
  • A widened nose
  • A bulbous nose
  • Large nostrils
  • A desire to enhance tip projection

How Male Rhinoplasty Differs from Female Rhinoplasty

The goals of rhinoplasty vary between men and women. Women often prefer smaller noses with delicate, well-defined tips, while men typically aim for a straight nose with sufficient structure and volume to maintain a masculine appearance.

Key considerations for male rhinoplasty include:

  • Forehead-to-Nasal Bridge Angle: Ideally, 130–140 degrees.
  • Nasal Width: Slightly wider (around 10 mm) to avoid a feminine appearance.
  • Dorsal Aesthetic Lines: Should be straight for a balanced, masculine look.
  • Nasal Tip-to-Lip Angle: Approximately 90 degrees.
  • Nasal Tip: Well-defined yet broader and with more volume than a female nose.

These distinctions ensure results that align with the aesthetic preferences and facial structure of male patients.

Common issues encountered in Male Rhinoplasty

Some of the common issues discussed by males include low nose, hump nose, crooked nose and droopy tip.

flat nose

Dorsal Augmentation

A low nose bridge can give a dull appearance, making correction of a flat nose essential for a strong, masculine look. Male rhinoplasty focuses on creating a straight, elevated nose bridge while ensuring the nasal tip matches to prevent drooping.

Dorsal augmentation can be achieved using silicone implants or autologous cartilage grafts. Spreader grafts are used to widen the nasal dorsum to the ideal width of 10 mm, creating straight dorsal lines. The nasal tip is enhanced with onlay grafts, typically from ear cartilage, along with precise suture techniques to achieve a well-projected, balanced result.

Osteotomy to Correct Hump Nose

A nasal hump, caused by congenital factors or trauma, is often associated with a crooked nose and breathing issues. Addressing the hump refines the nose’s appearance, creating a more masculine and balanced look.

The hump, located in the bone or cartilage, is camouflaged or carefully removed during surgery. Following this, the dorsum is smoothened using autologous tissue, such as fascia or diced cartilage and fascia, to ensure a seamless contour. This approach restores symmetry and improves nasal aesthetics.

crooked nose

Correction of Deviated Nose and Improved Breathing

A deviated or crooked nose, whether congenital or from trauma, can impact appearance and breathing. Diagnosing the deviation before surgery is vital to avoid future complications like recurrence or further deviation.

The curved septum is removed and reinforced with spreader grafts to create a wider and straighter dorsal profile. Aligning the septum with the anterior nasal spine ensures the nasal tip remains straight and balanced. This provides a stable foundation for tip refinement and structural support for a projected, natural result.

droopy tip

Tip-Plasty

Reshaping the nasal tip is performed alongside dorsal augmentation to ensure the elevated dorsum complements the rest of the nose. A masculine nasal tip is defined, voluminous, and robust without appearing bulbous.

A strong tripod structure supports the tip, preventing drooping. Natural tip-plasty uses autologous grafts, usually harvested from ear cartilage, and precise suturing techniques. This approach creates a secure and rigid nasal tip, maintaining its position and reducing the risk of recurrence.

Male Rhinoplasty: What to Expect

Correction of deviated septum + hump deformity + Dorsal Augmentation + Tip Plasty

01 Firm Foundation
Male Rhinoplasty

Correction of Nasal Deviation or Hump Deformity

A strong, symmetrical foundation is necessary for successful rhinoplasty. Deviated septum correction and spreader grafts reinforce the septum, creating a wider dorsum and straight dorsal aesthetic lines.

Hump deformities are corrected by gradually removing cartilage or bone, ensuring a smooth nasal profile and preventing future deviation, forming the base for dorsal augmentation.

02 Dorsal Augmentation

Creating the Ideal Nasal Angles

For males, the ideal angle between the forehead and nose is 130–140 degrees, while the nasolabial angle (nose to lips) should be 90–100 degrees.

The forehead-to-nose angle is achieved using fascial grafts or a silicone implant. The nasolabial angle is refined with septal extension grafts or cartilage grafts, ensuring a balanced and masculine nasal profile.

03 Reshape the Tip
Male Rhinoplasty

Defined Tip with Adequate Volume

In male rhinoplasty, the nasal tip must retain sufficient volume and structure to maintain a masculine appearance, distinguishing it from the more delicate features often desired in female rhinoplasty.

Cartilage grafts and precise suture techniques are used to create a well-defined tip that complements the augmented nasal dorsum for a balanced and masculine profile.

Ideal Nose Height

The height of the nose helps form the proper angle between the forehead and nose, contributing to a masculine and refined appearance. Addressing nasal deviations or hump irregularities ensures a symmetrical and balanced profile.

Male Rhinoplasty

Ideal Tip Projection

A well-projected nasal tip is key to achieving a masculine look and avoiding a droopy appearance when the nasal dorsum is elevated. The tip must also harmonise with the overall facial proportions for a balanced aesthetic.
